Staff WiFi at In2Food that does not touch the production line

In2Food, a national food production business, needed staff WiFi during breaks, with no risk to operational network traffic. One dedicated network segment, throttled, time-boxed, on a router we supply and manage.

Challenge

In a food production environment the operational network, meaning PLCs, SCADA and order management, is sacred. Staff also legitimately need WiFi on breaks, for browsing and for keeping in touch with family. The two could not share a subnet.

Solution

• Staff WiFi kept on its own network, separate from the traffic the plant runs on.
• Captive portal with terms acceptance and POPIA-aware consent wording.
• Per-user throttling so nobody can saturate the uplink during the lunch rush.
• Time-boxed sessions, so access is deliberate rather than permanent.
• Acceptable usage rules shown and accepted at the login step.
• A router we supply, configure and manage, so network changes do not land on the IT team.

The result

Staff get the WiFi they need without a single packet crossing onto the production network. The IT team gets one less network to look after. The business gets a simple layer of connectivity that stays out of the way, and one number to call when it needs changing.
