WiFi billing, vouchers and paid access

Charge for your WiFi, or hand out a voucher.

Every Hotwireless package includes the billing side of guest WiFi: free access, advertising-supported access, vouchers and paid tiers, all from the same branded login page. The venue decides which of them is running, and changes its mind whenever it wants.

Included from R399 per location per month, ex VAT. Support is Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 SAST.

What a WiFi billing system does

Four things, and none of them need a network person.

Vendors call this hotspot billing or hotspot management. What it means for a venue is that you control who gets online, for how long, and whether they pay for it.

Decide who pays and who does not

Free for everyone, free with your advertising on the page, voucher-only, or paid. You set it, and you can run more than one at the same time: a free allowance for walk-ins and a voucher for the guest who needs longer.

Sell access in sizes that suit you

Access is issued by time or by data allowance. An hour, a day, a week, a fixed number of gigabytes. A conference delegate and a long-stay guest do not need the same thing, and they do not have to get the same thing.

Stop the free tier being eaten

Each access tier carries its own time and speed limit. The free tier stays usable for the room because one long download cannot take the whole line with it.

See what has been used

Know which codes have been redeemed and which are still sitting unused, so you know when to print the next batch and whether anyone is actually buying.

How vouchers work

Simple for staff, invisible for guests.

You ask for a batch of codes

Tell us the size and the length you want and a batch is generated for the venue. Print them, write them on a card, or put them in the welcome pack.

The counter hands one over

Reception, the front desk or the till gives the code to the guest. There is no shared WiFi password doing the rounds and no password to change when a staff member leaves.

The guest types it in and goes

They connect to your network, your login page opens by itself, they enter the code, and they are online for exactly as long as the code says.

Paid access

For the guest who needs a clean video call.

An optional paid tier on the login page unlocks a longer session or a higher speed, at a price the venue sets.

It suits hotels, guest houses, co-working spaces and serviced offices, where a business traveller would rather pay than fight for bandwidth. Time and speed limits are set per access tier, so the free tier stays usable for everyone else while the paid tier is worth buying.

What a session sells for is yours to decide, and what guests pay is yours to keep. We charge the venue a fixed monthly package fee, not a share of your takings.

Who charges for WiFi

Places where paid or voucher access earns its keep.

Hotels, guest houses and lodges

A fair free allowance for every guest, and a voucher at reception for the conference delegate or the long-stay guest who needs more.

Conference and event venues

Delegate access for the length of the event, issued per session rather than as one password shared with the whole hall.

Co-working and serviced offices

A paid tier for the person who would rather buy a clean video call than argue about bandwidth with the room.

Caravan parks and self-catering

Access sold by the night or by the week, in the same way the site is already sold.

Community hotspots

Free sponsored access, vouchers, or a mix, in a place where people already gather. See the Community Free WiFi Project.

Student accommodation

A daily free tier with a paid or voucher upgrade, so the line holds up when everyone is home at the same time.

FAQ

WiFi billing questions.

What is a WiFi billing system?

It is the part of a guest WiFi setup that decides who gets online, for how long, at what speed, and whether they pay for it. In practice that means a login page, access tiers, vouchers, and a record of what has been used. Every Hotwireless package includes it.

Do you work with MikroTik hotspot billing?

Yes. We run MikroTik hotspot setups for venues across South Africa, and the billing, vouchers and access tiers are part of the managed package rather than something you configure yourself. If you already have MikroTik equipment in the building we can usually work with it, and if it is tired we will quote a replacement rather than pretend it is fine.

What does it cost?

Vouchers and paid access are part of every package, so there is no separate billing fee. Packages are R399, R599 or R799 per location per month, ex VAT. It is a fixed monthly fee with no usage-based costs, and you can cancel on one calendar month of written notice.

Do we keep what guests pay?

Yes. The price of a voucher or a paid session is yours to set and yours to collect. We charge you the monthly package fee for the venue, not a cut of what your guests spend.

Can we run free and paid access at the same time?

Yes, and most venues do. A free tier keeps walk-ins happy and a voucher or paid tier covers the guest who needs longer or faster.

Does this work in a vehicle as well?

Yes. All three packages work at a fixed location and on the move, so a shuttle or a tour bus can run the same vouchers and the same access tiers as a venue.
